Mr. Burns, a post-electric play
by Anne Washburn

Play
Mr. Burns, a post-electric play is an imaginative dark comedy. The play discusses how culture could be remembered and re-developed after catastrophic events.
Due to the Fukushima Nuclear Disasters in 2011, I deeply empathize with the negative effects of nuclear radiation. To visually present the effects as well as the invisible fear,  the mutated plant patterns are applied in the second act, which takes place 7 years after nuclear disasters. The normal foliage patterns are used in the first act to establish a baseline for the transition. To reflect a limited-resource world that has no electricity, candle and bonfire effects are presented in the third act, which is set 75 years later.
